James Steve Urner has been a licensed real estate agent for over 40 years. He became a real estate broker in 1990 and started Urner Realty at that time. Steve is a Graduate of the Realtor Institute, (GRI), a designation that he attained in 2006.

The Urners are pioneers in Kern County. Steves’s grandfather joined his brother who started Urners Appliance over 100 years ago. Steve was born and raised in Bakersfield and has resided here his entire life.  Steve retired from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department in 2005 after serving the citizens of Kern County for over 20 years. During this time, he actively pursued real estate. Many of Steve’s clients are peace officers and their families. Steve launched Bakersfield Preferred Properties in 2019, as a way to promote Bakersfield on a larger scale. “This is one of the most affordable places in California to live”, Steve says. Steve considers himself a problem solver and a negotiator. Many challenges face the real estate industry and Steve can take you through that process to a successful closing of escrow.
